August: Birthday Fishing Trip

Tayler, Garrett, Amy, and Patrick made the trip to Hopedale La from Monroe for Garrett’s Birthday. This was the first trip for Tayler, Amy and Patrick Garret is a repeat fishing offender. Any way the trip started off bad a fuel filter problem got in the way but I got it drained and we were on track again. First stop fish coming in the boat Specks and white trout mixed but quick action and rods bent nice way to start the day. Next stop Tayler and Garret and Amy bull reds in the boat. I took us a little further out to some islands and we found some bigger trout ready to take the bait steady action and the box looking good until a storm blew in and stopped the bite. Headed around the storm in search of redfish and had some pulling drag reds on the line. We worked the shoreline catching some keeper reds and a bunch of rat reds too small to keep and ended the day with the rain right on our tails on the way in. AWESOME BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR GARRET! The rods were bent all day long.

TROUT TRAIN ON A ROLL

The speckled trout are going nuts in Hopedale Louisiana! The past week has been some great fishing even with the tide not moving much and thunderstorms the trout have been in the mood to bite. The pattern is an early morning bite for the most part with catching most of the fish before 9;00 am. Live shrimp and Gulps under a cork has been doing the damage. With the Miss River on the fall I look for the specks to stay on for the rest of the summer.

Speckled trout fishing is wide open right now in Hopedale LA. The river is dropping and the fish are biting like crazy. If you want some fish for dinner and the freezer now is the time to get them. The last several trips this month have been full limits on speckled trout. The redfish are still slow but we get some everyday just not a lot but that will change soon.

July Fourth weekend

July Fourth Weekend!
Friday: Skip and Alex Marks regulars of mine for quite some time now were back and ready to get into some speckled trout. It was one stop shopping trip. Things started slow but as the sun came up the trout really turned on big trout hitting the bait hard. Live shrimp under corks did the trick. Great day on the water with a box of quality trout.

Saturday: Was my son Jacob’s day to bring his friends Jordan and Brett the wind was forecasted to be 5 to 10 mph NOT! It was ripping 15 to 20 could not geta bite where I caught yesterday so we rock and rolled around the bay and got on some birds and the boy’s were slinging trout in the boat. Around 10:00 the wind quit and sea’s flat so back to where we started and it was on steady action until the limit was full.

Sunday: Was my youngest son Daniel 12 day to bring his friend Eric and Stuart and his dad Stuart. Much better conditions light wind calm sea’s. First stop the action was slow but the trout were nice so I stayed with for a good while putting 30 or so on ice before moving on. Found the bird’s again and the boy’s were having a blast with tandem rigged plastic catching two at a time. It was getting real hot and they wanted some redfish so we left the trout and hit bthe shoreline’s where 4 drum and 1 red hit the box where we called ita day with close to 100 fish in the cooler. Great two day’s with my son’s and their friends.

Weekend Double

Another great weekend of speckled trout and redfish fishing in Hopedale LA. The winds have calmed and things are coming together and the fish are biting.
Capt Gene’s boat
Saturday I had Larry Romero, and his two son-in laws Cecil and Todd. These guy’s have fished we me for years and we always have a good time and catch a lot of fish and this time was no different. We caught decent early and things got slow for awhile and we had to work for them but by mid to lat morning the box was filling up with trout. Larry and the guy’s wanted some reds so we hit the ponds and got few reds and drum to top off the box.
80 Trout, 8 redfish, 2 Drums, 1 flounder

Capt. Tony’s boat
Capt Tony helped me out with some regular’s Tyler Bickham and friends on his boat. They did almost the same as me in a different area with a early bite then working for them the res of the day and finishing off the box with some redfish as well.

Late Limit

I fished yesterday with Ross and his wife Lana and had a great day on the water. Things started just the opposite of what I wanted SLOOW. No tide no fish. We hit all the spots I caught on Mon and Teus plus some and at 9:30 only 8 fish in the box. Keep on fishing persistence pay’s. I made a big move to another area and finally got on some trout but it did not last a few more moves and we found some good trout mixed with schoolies but a good fish every three. Stayed there and finished up with their limit 50 trout late in the day 1:30, but we got’em nice box of fish on a tough day with some really nice people.
